Microorganisms and other species like waxworms, mealworms, superworms,etc. can accelerate the biodegradation process of plastics by biodeterioration, depolymerization, assimilation and mineralization.biodegradation seems to be the most attractive and ecofriendly method to combat this growing environmental problem.

Why is it important?
biodegradation seems to be the most attractive and eco-friendly method to combat this growing environmental problem. The representative polyethylene (PE) and polystyrene (PS) account for about 40% of the total plastic production. Various chemical and biological processes with great potential have been developed for plastic recycle and reuse, but biodegradation seems to be the most attractive and eco-friendly method to combat this growing environmental problem.
Perspectives
except as a global pollution problem, plastic waste also represents a low-cost, carbon-rich and easily obtained feedstock. Deciphering nature’s secrets by encoding the enzymatic pathways existing in the plastic-degrading species and developing sustainable strategies for plastics deconstruction, recycling and upcycling are critical to solve the plastics waste problem.
