What is it about?

This article is a review of all previous findings on braided rivers, associated processes, and energy dissipation mechanisms. The hierarchies (or overlapped) of energy dissipation at three different scales (braided belt mobility, bar disorderness, and instream vegetated landform dynamics) concerning the implications for the Brahmaputra River are discussed in this article. The field investigated datasets, geospatial imageries, and Google Earth Engine computed fluvial information are integrated to conceptualize and understand the complex underlying processes.

Why is it important?

The concepts and findings of this article can be further integrated into effective river-corridor management practices to tame the Brahmaputra and alike large dynamic braided rivers.

Perspectives

Our article address all possible insights into the braided river system and the associated energy dissipation process and introduced a new perspective of process-form-vegetation interaction study as a whole braided river system.
