What is it about?

Manganese oxide materials are appealing for many technological applications. Using a simple procedure, we synthesize two manganese compounds and used them to fabricate new manganese oxide nanomaterials by a vapor-deposition method. Both compounds are nearly "perfect" precursors: they can be easily vaporized, are volatile, and give manganese-oxide materials of high purity.

Why is it important?

We studied the structure, thermal behavior, and reactivity of the manganese compounds with a broad set of methods. This helps to predict the compounds' behaviour in the deposition experiment and to obtain manganese oxide materials with desired composition and properties.


The manganese oxide materials prepared with our precursors could become useful in solar energy capture and utilization - for example, in the water splitting process. Another interesting perspective is the use of these materials to create new sensors for the detection of toxic or flammable gases like carbon monoxide and methane.
