What is it about?

In this study, we elaborated composites of unsaturated polyester resin, synthesized from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from glycolysis, with several volumes of corn straw fiber, and studied the effect of fiber content on their physical and mechanical properties.

Why is it important?

Corns straw fiber is an excellent option to reinforced plastic compounds, because of low cost, biodegradability, and high availability. On the other hand, large amounts of PET are discarded worldwide, causing serious pollution problems because the recycling volume is very low. This research contributes to the development of a new material with good physical and mechanical properties from the use of this two waste materials for the benefit of the environment.
