What is it about?
Plastic deformation is a powerful tool for creating orientational structures in polymers, which makes it possible to improve their strength and plastic characteristics, without introducing reinforcing fillers.

Why is it important?
The method of plastic deformation by a simple shear is characterized by the fact that it is not accompanied by a shape change. Thus it is possible to obtain self-reinforcing structures in bulk materials. This distinguishes this approach from such methods of plastic deformation as rolling, drawing, extrusion through a die. In the latter case, one of the dimensions is considerably smaller than the other two.
Perspectives
On the example of two thermodynamically immiscible polymers, namely ABS and PET, the possibility of simple shear deformation was shown in order to obtain completely mixable mixtures with a single glass transition temperature, increased strength and plastic characteristics.
