What is it about?
Synergistic removal of copper and nitrazine dye as a function of some independent operational parameters was investigated using an eco-friendly chitosan-montmorillonite hydrogel.

Why is it important?
Langmuir and Freundlich models were evaluated to best describe the adsorption process. Thermodynamics and kinetic studies were also carried out for the sorption copper and nitrazine dye on CS-MMT. Response surface methodology (RSM) by Box–Behnken design model was employed to optimize the adsorption process.
Perspectives
This is the first report on chemically crosslinked Schiff based CS-MMT hydrogels which was simultaneously applied for removal of Cu(II) and NY dye from water.
