What is it about?

Impact of volcanic gases on the chemical composition of the atmosphere following a gaseous volcanic eruption and subsequently on the composition of precipitation.

Why is it important?

Volcanic gases can have a vast impact on the society and ecosystems. The chemical pathways following an eruption and their impact is not very well understood. Understanding the chemical source and the processes is a key factor to be able to understand the consequent for the environment.

Perspectives

Older gaseous eruptions are known to have drastic impact on people and society, both locally and abroad. Acid precipitation with high concentration of chemicals can have a vital impact on the well being of animals, humans and ecosystems. It is important to know the impact and consequences there of to be able forecast expected situations, the risk for the sociaty and react in appropriate manner.
