What is it about?

We described clinical outcomes and associated factors in children with COVID-19. In this cohort of African children admitted with COVID-19: morbidity and mortality were higher than in other settings, associated with age <1 year and comorbidities.

Why is it important?

This study’s findings may have implications for clinical practice and health policy regarding pediatric COVID-19 in African countries; given their high risk of adverse outcomes, COVID-19 vaccination and therapeutic interventions are needed for African children and adolescents.

Perspectives

Working in collaboration with researcher colleagues at an international level is an experience that makes this article unique for me. I have made new contacts and many more are now following my work as a result of this publication which caught the attention of a high impact factor journal, the JAMA Pediatrics.
