Why is it important?
It raised several questions with respect to the revelant article: Jiménez D, Agustí A, Tabernero E, et al; SLICE Trial Group. Effect of a pulmonary embolism diagnostic strategy on clinical outcomes in patients hospitalized for COPD exacerbation: a randomized clinical trial.JAMA. 2021;326(13):1277-1285.
Perspectives
In the SLICE trial, implementation of an active strategy for the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism (PE) did not significantly improve a composite health outcome compared with usual care alone among patients hospitalized for an exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). There are some concerns about this study.
