The Dutch CovidSurg I study
This study aims to provide a better understanding of the effect that a COVID-19 infection has on patients that need to undergo surgery.
University Medical Centre Groningen

The University Medical Center in Groningen (UMCG) is conducting multiple research projects to define and understand groups of people with a higher risk of becoming seriously ill if they are infected with the novel coronavirus. UMCG researchers and clinicians are investigating the effect that a corona infection has on patients that undergo surgery, or how COVID-19 affects pregnant women that are infected with the virus.
In order to provide optimal care to vulnerable groups, it is crucial to understand the risks for these groups in connection to COVID-19. For some groups, we still need to determine whether they are at risk; only through a thorough risk assessment, we will be able to identify all people who are at risk, thus providing information to the healthcare system and policy bodies on better decision making for these groups.
This study aims to provide a better understanding of the effect that a COVID-19 infection has on patients that need to undergo surgery.
