What is it about?
While the health advantages of engaging in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) for diabetes prevention are well established, the independent role of when MVPA is performed remains underexplored. To address this gap, we conducted an analysis in 84,528 UK Biobank and 6,998 NHANES participants showed that MVPA performed in the afternoon or evening was associated with lower risk of type 2 diabetes and with a more favorable glycemic profile compared with MVPA performed in the early morning, independent of total daily MVPA and relevant confounders. These findings highlight timing of MVPA as a novel and potentially actionable dimension in the prevention of type 2 diabetes.
