What is it about?
We have executed an unbiased screen to find drug-like molecules that protect insulin-secreting beta cells from stress. Molecules we found worked by reducing calcium overload in the beta cells.

Why is it important?
The study adds a central hypothesis around a causal role for calcium overload for beta-cell dysfunction in Type 2 Diabetes and suggests calcium antagonists as possible therapeutics.
Perspectives
I hope that this work will lead to the T2D community to further consider the role of calcium antagonists in diabetes.
