What is it about?

TV shows like FOX's Gotham offer interesting perspectives on classic Gothic themes. Issues like bisexuality are also explored through a few characters in the series namely Barbara Kean. This paper talks about both through some feminist ideas and argues that even if the series is "new" or current, like Gotham, some traditional Gothic themes remain.

Why is it important?

This research adds to a growing conversation on modern Gothic television programs and the presentation of the characters in those worlds. The Gothic "rules" from previous times are still present.

Perspectives

Working on this article was a great pleasure. I read more comic books than I had in my entire life (and I read comics before!) because I had the opportunity to work in an university archive (Ray & Pat Browne Library for Popular Culture Studies, Bowling Green State University and the Popular Culture Summer Research Institute) that allowed me to really uncover some of the main ideas present in the article.
