What is it about?

As a nonfiction storyteller, I search high and low for the truth. I check, double check, tripled check, cross reference, and verify. I let the facts guide the narrative. But when I joined photojournalist Jason Henry and writer Erik Maza on a visit to Guatemala’s largest landfill, I faced the challenges of capturing the full, raw truth.

Why is it important?

If we are to repair this world, to stop global warming, and establish meaningful equity, we must have the facts. We must immerse ourselves in the truth. To do that, we must first realize just how elusive it can be.

Perspectives

Writng this essay has helped me remain vigilant and yet also hopeful about preserving the truth at a time we it is "literally and figuratively being eroded on a daily basis."
