The study contributes to a counter-representation of the West, an area that has been overlooked in the literature. What we tend to see is how the West represents Africa, but now how Africa represents the West. This is the gap the study addresses. It also points to the structural imperialistic flows in media representation, highlighting how local media in Nigeria remain dependent on Western media affordances.
