What is it about?
Criminal legal system involvement (CLSI) poses major challenges to access and quality of healthcare among those with mental illnesses and substance use disorders (SUD). Those with criminal legal system involvement (CLSI) and mental illness only and both mental illness and substance use disorder (SUD) had significantly higher risk for healthcare utilization compared to those with neither. Those with criminal legal system involvement (CLSI) and substance use disorder (SUD) had higher risk for ED utilization. Mental illness and substance use disorders (SUD) are strong drivers of healthcare utilization.
