What is it about?
Anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis is a rare auto-immune condition that has only recently been identified. During the acute phase of the disorder people can display dramatic disturbances of thinking and behaviour. While this condition is severe and life-threatening, the acute disturbance usually responds to immuno-modulation treatment. The experience of people after the resolution of the acute phase has been under researched. This study interviewed people recovering from the condition and explored its impact on their lives. Participants described significant ongoing impairments and several ways that they had learnt to cope with these.
