What is it about?

This patient had a multifocal ablation done on his cornea to treat presbyopia. He was extremely happy until he developed cataracts. In order to maintain both his distance and near vision, bilateral Symfony lenses were implanted with success. This case illustrates how an eye that has undergone prior refractive surgery can be successful with an extended depth of focus intraocular lens

Why is it important?

As the baby boomers are aging they want to reduce their dependency on reading glasses. There are millions of patients that have had prior refractive surgery in order to eliminate the need for distance glasses and now as they age and develop cataracts would like to also not wear readers. Implanting an extended depth of focus lens such as the Symfony can be a good option for them.
