What is it about?
Many everyday products, from medicines to cosmetics, contain compounds extracted from plants. This extraction usually relies on petroleum-based solvents that are toxic and harmful to the environment. Our review looks at a promising alternative: Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NaDES), which are made entirely from natural ingredients like sugars, amino acids, and organic acids. We show how they extract plant compounds more efficiently, work with modern techniques, and reduce environmental impact.

Why is it important?
Interest in natural solvents has grown exponentially, but much of the information is scattered or unclear. Our review consolidates this knowledge and offers a practical roadmap: which solvents work best for which compounds, what problems can arise during analysis, and how to prove that a method is truly greener. This matters because industries in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals are under increasing pressure to replace harmful solvents, and they need reliable, evidence-based options. By highlighting both the strengths and the remaining challenges, this review helps move natural solvents from promising laboratory ideas toward real applications. Take-Home Message: NaDES are more than green solvents. They are enabling a new generation of sustainable extraction technologies that transform natural resources and industrial waste into valuable products for food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and analytical science.
Perspectives
Working on this review was a constant reminder that "green" does not always mean "easy." We spent many hours dealing with viscous extracts that clogged instruments and puzzling over unexpected retention shifts. But we also saw these natural solvents outperform conventional ones in ways that genuinely surprised us. I hope this review helps other researchers avoid the pitfalls we encountered and feel confident that greener chemistry can also be better chemistry.
